anonymous complimentary card in a lady's hand, on his
appearing dressed as a soldier, expressing a friendly wish
and prayer for his safety and success in the cause of
liberty . . .
  When, with a voice that fills the skies, 
  A brother's blood for vengeance cries;
  When Liberty and Justice stand
  Trembling beneath Oppression's hand;

  When, in a trumpet's dreadful sound, 
  The cruel mandate's heard around--
